Dirk van der Kooij, 2023 The Helm is a belted sphere grown additively from syrupy ribbons of molten, recycled plastic. Leaves of cocooning 3D printed bands cradle their fiery core, overlapping perpendicularly to encourage crystalline light refraction. When passing through the corrugated structure, light breaks, softens, and multiplies into an engulfing spread. All elements of the Helm have been developed and produced in Zaandam by Kooij. |
